This post contains my recommendations of Death Note related fanfictions, amvs, flash videos, doujinshi, art, etc. Enjoy and let me know if you know anything else that should be mentioned here. Any discussion is welcome.


Fanfiction

• HOT TIP A Tithe to Hell by ningenfucker (NC-17, Light/L, angst, drama, bloodplay, AU). The best DN fic I've read so far. It takes place after Yotsuba arc. It's AU where L refuses to remove handcuffs and still does not believe in Light not being Kira. Light's point of view, awesome story, breathtaking storytelling, I had goosebumps all over my body when I was reading the bloodplay part. And after finishing reading, I could not sleep, it was too intense.


• Justify by serria (PG-13, Light/L). The writer says: When it's all said and done, only the righteous can take justice ...and justify it. The ballad of Light and L, from start to finish. I don't think I could make up better summary. See the rating, it contains hints of Light/L, but it still remains in-canon. Great work.


• HOT TIP Famous Last Words by angelsfear (NC-17, Light/L). Set during the Yotsuba arc (memoryless Raito). So sad. I don't know what to say more. Sad and beautiful. Memoryless Raito, believing in his innocence, and L, always so suspicious... And yes, the last words are made of win.


• What Nothing Really Tastes Like by angelsfear (PG-13, Light/L). Spoilers for the whole series, especially for the ending. Set immediately after the end of manga. Nothing could have prepared Light for Nothing. I think this is what every Raito/L fan hopes for ^^


• Misunderstandings by knights_say_nih (NC-17, Light/L). Takes place in Light's memory loss period. L is angry because nothing makes sense and he wants to find an answer.


• Their Favourite Pastime by okobi (PG-13, Light, L). Short funny oneshot. I love it when Raito is pissed off ^^


• HOT TIP Come To My Terminal by darkeyedwolf (R maybe, Light/L, crackfic). I don't know, maybe chatboard fics are one of my kinks ^^ Especially when L uses "justice is hot" alias ^^ Read and have fun!


• Femininity by artemisgirl (PG-13, Light/L). L is tries to persuade Light that he is a girl ^^ Funny!


• Fowl Play: or How to Solve the Kira Case Without Really Trying by phoebonica (G, L, Light). Crackfic, hilarious, fun.


• Chasm by dune_master (G, Light). Raito-centric. Gods don't have nightmares. Kira does not.


• Lullaby for a Stormy Night by darkluna (NC-17, Matt/Near, mentioned Mello/Matt). Did I say that Matt is unappealing for me? This is true only partially, see the pairing.


• Need by astizya_ii (NC-17, Matt/Mello/Near). Ugh. Just sex. Mello is hot, Near is cute and Matt is amused. Hot stuff.


• Second Place by harukami (NC-17, L/Near/Mello). Another "ugh". You can see the pairing. But it's not pwp. L comes to Wammy's to decide who will be his succesor. And finds two, none of them good enough. I like the part where he explains his decision, I like Near being scared of being the second, I like it because in my eyes Near and Mello are supposed to stay together - and that's why they dislike and tease each other so much.


• Look (PG-13, Mello, Near) and Fall (G, Mello, Near, Matt) by louder_louder. MelloxNear relationship, I can't get enough.


• Broken Children and Seek by louder_louder (G, Mello/Near). Drabbles written for 30_angsts.


• kan, ya ma kan by arabesque05 (PG-13, Mogi/Ide, Light/L). Once there was, and once there was not. Six people Hideki Ide can never unremember.


• HOT TIP Becoming useful, Atropos and Forsaken by fox_in_exile (NC-17, Mikami/Light). Takes place in the weeks leading up to Light finding the Death Note until just prior to Light entering university. I'd have never imagined that this AU could work. But it does. I wasn't fond of Mikami much but now it has changed. Now I am obsessed with him. Maybe the best DN fanfic I've ever read.
  The final fic in the series: Redemption (NC-17, Mikami/Near, Mello/Near). Mikami is imprisoned by the former members of the SPK, while Near struggles with his memories of Mello.


• Choke On A Lie by istne_pieklo (PG, Mikami/Gevanni). Slash without slash.


• HOT TIP Put Your Hands On Me by viola_canina (PG, Mikami/Takada). 20 Random Facts About Teru Mikami & Kiyomi Takada.


• Chief's Guardian by kazokuhouou (PG-13, implied Matsuda/Soichiro). Author's note: And I wrote this, because like hell Light's dad didn't have some sort of psychological trauma from the ending. Warning: suicide attempt.


• Mirror Mirror by RavenSohma (NC-17, Kira/Light). OK, see the pairing ^^ I found this discussion at capslock_dn that started with the question y'know how people say, "Oh, god!" during sex, right? Since Laighto thinks he's god, does that mean he cries out his own name during sex? I say, hell, yes ^^ Or just as planned is good possibility too ^^

• DeathSponge NotePants. I don't know Spongebob at all, but the video is so good it's creepy. (and the other-way-around version exists too)

Other stuff

• Death Note Notes by lynkemma. Let the author say it themselves: When I finished my Master's degree in English in 2005, I sincerely believed I'd never want to do literary analysis, ever again. Then I happened across Death Note, and changed my mind. However, what with one thing and another, I don't have the mental capacity to write a neat and pretty article/essay on it right now, so the following are basically fragments of a potential future essay, or, quite simply, notes.


• Religious Imagery in Episode 25 by c_sinensis. It's for religious/christian illiterates as me ^^ But I knew that foot masage scene wasn't fanservis!


• HOT TIP Gothic Elements in Death Note by kayen (the link is f-locked for members of death_note, alternative link is here). The best essay (or paper) on Death Note theme I have read so far. I especially like the comparison between western and eastern perception.

Thanks for your rec! I'll definitely look at it. It's WIP, right? When I read the summary, I was a bit worried but I'll try it. Do you happen to know any good story with Mikami? After reading stories by fox_in_exile, I have become kind-of obsessed with him ^^

Yes it's WIP, and IMO it's decidedly the best DN multichaptered so far. I've never seen any author other than Ezan who 'creates' so much in one fic. She built 'MU' wonderfully. As for characterization, I like hers for making steady character developments and enough justification for said developments, rather than copying straight from canon and either keep it that way to the end or make a 180-degree-personality-swap.

As for Mikami fic, well, there's this fic that I initially read because it had BB, besides Mikami. Still, I must admit that the voices of both characters were done equally beautifully here. So here you go:

I've read the fic and Mikami is great there. I haven't read Another Note yet so I can't say the same about BB, I don't know him. I booked AN in Amazon but it still hasn't arrived.

Neither I have read AN. But from what I've gathered from the net and watching people RP BB at dramadramaduck and Econtra_rpg and reading fanfics, he easily becomes my favourite besides L, Death Note-wise. Good thing is, all BB fics I've read so far are of very good quality. Isn't the book scheduled to be out on the 19th?

I'm of the 'one fandom at a time' kind, so mine is really limited. My previous/favourite fandom is FFVIII, I also read Kingdom Hearts but only if Leon is involved. The same applies to several other fandoms with 'Leon' replaced by my favourite character(s) of each fandom.

I'm fandom whore now, I think. Death Note, Kyou Kara Maou, Harry Potter, Gakuen Heaven, Ouran, Inuyasha and few others. I should take a break.
